Firriato winery was established in 1984 by Salvatore Gaetano. Firriato has 6 estates in 3 different types of  Sicilian Terroir.  Etna (Mountain), Sea (Favignana Island), Hill (Trapani country side) 

I am excited to welcome back Marco Scapagnini to join us for a special tasting of wines.  Marco last visited us in August of 2017, he is back with some new wines and old favorites.

I have enjoyed these wines for several years and always receive a great response from customers who purchase them.  

Here are the 5 wines we will be tasting with notes from Marco: 

White:
ETNA BIANCO “LE SABBIE DELL’ETNA” 
Blend of Carricante and Catarratto.
It is a vivid example of the white wines produced on Etna thanks to the sensations it gives to the mouth and nose, with the breadth and depth of the sea. Full-bodied and of lingering appeal, it is alive with a captivating and modern freshness. The magnificent fruit of wine-production on Mount Etna.

The Reds:
NERO D’AVOLA “CHIARAMONTE” 
100% Nero d’ Avola
This IGT Terre Siciliane red offers dark fruit nuances followed by bold oak tones of spice and tobacco.
The mouthfeel is characterized by thick lines and soft contours.
There is a lot of oak here (it ages in American oak for six months) but it does not overtake the fruit.

“SANTAGOSTINO” 
Nero d’Avola and Syrah.
Aromas and flavors of bacon fat and mesquite smoke mix with ripe black cherry,  licorice snap, mocha and mint in this expressive red, with fine grained tannins and juicy acidity.
Elegant through to the aromatic, coffee-tinged finish.
Tre Bicchieri Gambero Rosso

“CAMELOT” 2011
 Blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
  The wine is matured for nine months in French durmast barriques.  The wines is in the bottle for 6 months before is released. Bright and lively garnet red. The nose is full and complex bouquet that opens with extremely fine fruity hints of blueberries, raspberries and wild strawberries that make way to delicious hints of cherries and  black cherry jam, cinnamon, cocoa, eucalyptus, mint and herbs of the Mediterranean maquis. On the palate is mouth filling and soft, with great taste profile, thanks to marvelous and intact fruit, masterfully balanced with the lively fresh and dynamic acidity and lavish refined tannins.
