We are delighted to announce our next Wine Dinner featuring the wines of MAZZE.
We welcome Giovanni Mazzei, export manager and eldest son of Fillippo Mazzei owner of the Mazzei family winery.
Those of you who are familiar with Tuscan Wines are no doubt familiar with the Mazzei Winery and the Castello di Fonterutoli in Chianti Classico.
Marchesi Mazzei is one of the ten most oldest family owned businesses in Italy. The Fonterutoli Estate has been in the family since 1435 and has been passed down through 24 generations. They are the most awarded producers of Chianti Classico.
Ser Lapo Mazzei (1350-1412) and Filip Mazzei (1730-1816) are the 2 historically important family members in wine-making history. Ser Lapo is considered the father if the Chianti name. He was a winemaker and the first person to use Chianti as a region of production and terroir rather than the name of a wine. Philip was an entrepreneur, visionary, liberal thinker, and passionate grape grower. He planted the first European vines in Virginia and was a proponent of American Libertarian ideals in Virginia and Europe.
We will be tasting both wines that are the namesakes of these men.
Today the family has expanded its wine-making to the Maremma Coast of Tuscany and the renowned Zisola estate in Sicily!
