Free Wintasting Dec 19, 2023

We are excited to welcome Ricardo March Vice President for Beni di Batasiolo Winery in Piemonte.  Ricardo will be presenting five wines so be sure to come by to taste and learn about the great wines of Batasiolo.  Beni di Batasiolo is the story of the Dogliani family. The family has lived the world of wine for five generations in Italy’s Langhe district.  In 1978, the Dogliani family purchased the historic Kiola winery with its seven “beni,” or “estate,” in the internationally renowned zone for growing the celebrated Nebbiolo da Barolo grape.  Ricardo will be bringing a special bottle of Batasiolo Single Vineyard Barolo to taste.

The Dogliani family has lived in Italy’s Langhe district in Piedmont for three generations.  As the largest family-owned wine producer in the region, Batasiolo works with the land and allows nature to ensure their wine’s quality comes first.

Batasiolo’s wines prosper across nine beni – or ostates – in Piedmont, including five Cru vineyards that produce the most highly prized Barcios.  Today Batasiolo is run by the second generation Fiorenzo Dogliani, who got his start in the wine business with his brothers and sisters in 1962.  Over his 30+ years as Batasioloo’s Managing Director, Florenzo has extended the estate to encompass more than 320 acres of vineyards.

Wines

Gavi di Gavi
100% Cortese Grapes – Pale straw yellow in color. Aromas and flavors of tart citrus, savory spices, and green apples

Barbera d’ Alba
100% Barbera Grapes – After malolactic fermentation in stainless steel vats for 10-12 days, the juice is refined in Slavonian oak casks and stainless steel. Aroma of cooked fruit and spices.  Full body and robust.

Dolcetto d’Alba
100% Dolcetto Grapes – Clear, ruby red with purple tinges. Notes of fresh crushed red fruit.

Barbaresco
100% Nebbiolo Grapes – Clear garnet with a delicate tinge of orange.  Intense, pleasing and persistent aromas with hints of flowers, cooked fruit and spices. The juice is aged 12 months in oak and an additional 12 months in stainless steel.

Barolo
100% Nebbiolo Grapes = Nebbiolo grapes are picked from all five of Beni di Batasiolo’s Cru vineyards in early October and fermented on their skins for 10-12 days in stainless steel vats.  The juice is then aged in Slavonian oak casks for 24 months followed by an additional 12 months in stainless steel.  A bouquet typical of the Nebbiolo grape: flowery and toasty with hints of sweet spice, nuts and delicate herbs.

Barolo DOCG Brunate
100% Nebbiolo Single Vineyard Grapes – Brunate is one of the most prestigious vineyards in the entire Piedmont district, producing long-lasting wines of intense fragrance and body. Batasiolo’s Brunate vines are located in the southern part of the LaMorra commune, and grow in compact blue marl soil with layers of sand.
